OSHA Forklift Operator Training / Certification Requirements

Federal OSHA standard 1910.178(l) requires all powered industrial truck (PIT) operators receive a combination of formal instruction (which may include classroom instruction and/or interactive online computer learning), practical demonstrations performed by the employer to include practical exercises performed by the operator trainee, and evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace. In addition, the OSHA standard requires the employer shall certify that each operator has been trained and evaluated as required. The certification shall include the name of the operator, the date of the training, the date of the evaluation, and the identity of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation.

These online forklift operator courses are intended to provide online classroom style training, testing, and certification, and must be supplemented with all necessary hands-on training, operator evaluation required by OSHA to be conducted and certified on-site by the employer.
