Who Should take the Online OSHA 10-hour General industry Course?

The 10-hour Outreach training program for general industry was developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide workers with a general awareness of the types of hazards commonly found in general industry work sites. OSHA recommends the Outreach Training Program courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 general industry standards. Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of the job; for example, information about site-specific policies and procedures as well as instruction on tools and equipment used on the job.

Although OSHA recommends this course for workers, it is not mandatory. However, there are many business owners, unions, and government agencies located throughout the United States that require workers to complete this 10-hour course to work at their facilities. In addition, the State of Nevada Legislature passed AB 190 which requires non-supervisory workers employed in the entertainment industry to complete this 10 hour course, and SB 122 which requires workers in Cannabis establishments to complete this course. And starting in 2022, the State of California Assembly Bill (A.B.) 1775 requires certain contractors and subcontractors to ensure their workers employed in setting up, tearing down and operating live events at public entertainment venues owned by the State of California or any county within the state must complete an OSHA 10-hour training course.

How the Online OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Course Works

This online OSHA 10-hour general industry training course is designed for use by one trainee. Trainees will be able to begin training immediately after registering for their online OSHA course, or they can log in later. To make sure there is someone at the computer during the course, the student must click an arrow to advance through the course each time a section is completed. The course is narrated, so the student must use a computer equipped with speakers or they must plug in headphones or ear-buds so they can hear.

One of the major benefits of taking our online training course is the trainee may log out of their online training course at any time during their training session, and can log back in later to resume training where they left off, even from a different computer or tablet. The student must complete all course content to receive their OSHA card, in addition to spending a minimum of 10 hours (600 minutes) to complete their course. Furthermore, OSHA limits the student to a total cumulative training time of 7.5 hours per day; if you reach that daily limit, the course will pause until the next day. OSHA has also established a strict 180 calendar day completion period for the online 10-hour general industry course, although many students actually knock it out in a couple of days.
