Who Should take the Online OSHA 30-hour General industry Course?

The 30-hour Outreach training program was developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide safety coordinators and managers, human resources managers, operations managers, engineers, supervisors, foremen, union reps, workers, and safety committee members with a comprehensive overview of how OSHA operates, and the safety and health standards applicable to work sites covered by the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 general industry standards. Workers must receive additional training, when required by specific OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of the job; for example, information about site-specific policies and procedures as well as instruction on operation of tools and equipment used on the job.

Although OSHA recommends this course for managers and workers, it is not a mandatory course. However, there are many business owners, unions, and government agencies located throughout the United States that require workers to complete this 30-hour class to be eligible to work at their facilities. In addition, the State of Nevada Legislature passed AB 190 which requires supervisory workers (those who can hire and fire employees) employed in the entertainment industry to complete this 30 hour course. NV also passed SB 122, which requires supervisory employees working at Cannabis establishments to complete this 30-hour General Industry training course. The State of California also passed Assembly Bill (A.B.) 1775 in 2022, which requires certain contractors and subcontractors to ensure their department heads and leads at affected venues who oversee workers setting up, tearing down and operating live events at public entertainment venues owned by the State of California or any county within the state complete an OSHA 30-hour training course.

How the Online OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Course Works

This online 30 hour general industry training course is designed for use by one trainee. Trainees can begin training within minutes of registering for their online OSHA course, or they can log in later. To make sure there is someone at the computer, this course is designed so that the student must click an arrow to advance through the course each time a section is completed. The course is narrated, so the student must use a computer equipped with speakers or they can plug in headphones or ear-buds so they can hear the presentation.

One of the major benefits of taking our online training course is the trainee may log out of their online training course at any time during their training session, and can log back in later to resume training where they left off, even from a different computer or tablet. The student must complete all course content to receive their OSHA 30-hour card, in addition to spending a minimum of 30 hours (1800 minutes) to complete their course. Furthermore, OSHA limits the student to a total cumulative training time of 7.5 hours per day.; if you reach that daily limit, the course will pause until the next day. OSHA has also established a strict six-month completion period for the online 30-hour General Industry course, although many students actually knock out their 30-hour general industry course in just a few days.
