OSHA Training Requirements and Resources in Rock Springs WY

The State of Wyoming operates an approved State OSHA program that primarily regulates OSHA training in Rock Springs WY. The Wyoming State Plan was initially approved on May 3, 1974, and was granted final state plan approval on June 27, 1985.

WY OSHA Training Regulations and Standards

The Wyoming State Plan adopts all federal standards identically except for 1910 Subpart A, B, and C, and 1926 Subpart A and B, which have been reworded to reflect the Wyoming’s Safety Act. Wyoming has also adopted the Federal record-keeping and reporting requirements identical to the federal rule, 29 CFR 1904. Links to federal OSHA training requirements for construction and general industry are available below on this page.

Wyoming has unique standards that cover Oil and Gas Well Drilling, Servicing, Special Servicing and Anchor Tester Requirements. Federal OSHA does not have specific standards for this industry. For Wyoming’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards, access the Wyoming Occupational Health and Safety’s website.

Since Wyoming does not have jurisdiction in maritime industries, the state has not adopted 29 CFR 1915, 1916, 1917, or 1918 or a state equivalent.

Special Safety Training Considerations for Workers in Rock Springs WY

While our onsite and online OSHA 10 and 30-hour training courses for construction and general industry are the gold standard for training about general hazard recognition and avoidance for workers and supervisors, there are many workers in and around Rock Springs who face unique environmental and occupational hazards that require other specialized safety training to prevent serious injuries and illnesses.

Cold Stress Prevention Training is essential for those working in freezing temperatures or even cool, damp conditions—whether outdoors or in workplaces such as refrigerated warehouses, food processing plants, or unheated job sites. Cold stress can lead to frostbite, hypothermia, and reduced dexterity, increasing the risk of accidents. This training helps workers recognize the early symptoms of cold-related illnesses and implement safe work practices to minimize risks in frigid environments.

Being a focal point for natural gas extraction and production for the Green River Basin, H2S awareness training certification is a necessary safety topic to ensure their safety. And with Wyoming’s high summer temperatures, workers at risk for heat-related illnesses can benefit from Heat Stress Prevention Training to gain critical knowledge to stay safe in extreme conditions.

And affected workers must complete Confined Space Entry Training for General Industry before entering hazardous areas such as tanks, vats, silos, sewer and storm drain systems, underground utilities, and many crawl spaces. Supervisors overseeing confined space entry and attendants monitoring entrant safety must also be trained. These environments pose serious risks, including toxic gases, oxygen deficiency, and engulfment. Additionally, construction workers and supervisors entering confined spaces must complete specialized Confined Space Training for Construction.

Jurisdiction

The Wyoming State Plan applies to all public and private sector places of employment in Rock Springs and the rest of the state of Wyoming, with the exception of Federal employees (including those employed at Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks), the United States Postal Service (USPS), private sector maritime, employment at Warren Air Force Base and at the Naval Petroleum and Oil Shale Reserve in Casper, and certain agricultural related operations (field sanitation and temporary labor camps), which are subject to Federal OSHA jurisdiction.
