Special Safety Training Considerations for Workers in Elkhart IN

While our onsite and online OSHA 10 and 30-hour training courses for construction and general industry are the gold standard for training about general hazard recognition and avoidance for workers and supervisors, there are many workers in or near Elkhart who face unique environmental and occupational hazards that require other specialized safety training to prevent serious injuries and illnesses.  

Heat Illness Prevention Training is considered essential for anyone working in high temperatures or humid conditions, where prolonged exposure can lead to heat stress and even life-threatening heat stroke. So, whether working on construction sites, roadwork, landscaping and lawn care crews, in commercial kitchens, attics, or buildings without adequate ventilation, affected workers must know how to recognize the early signs of heat-related illness and know how to stay hydrated, take proper rest breaks, and respond to emergencies. Indiana OSHA Training Regulations and Standards

The State of Indiana operates a State OSHA program (IOSHA). The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health program is administered by the Indiana Department of Labor, who oversees OSHA training in Elkhart IN for most employers. The Indiana Plan was granted final state plan approval on September 26, 1986.

Jurisdiction

IOSHA applies to all places of employment in the State, with the exception of Federal Government employees, the United States Postal Service (USPS), private sector maritime, and certain agricultural related operations (the field sanitation standard and temporary labor camps), which are subject to Federal OSHA jurisdiction.

Indiana OSHA Information

Management of the IOSHA program is the responsibility of the Deputy Commissioner for IOSHA. The Deputy Commissioner of IOSHA is assisted by two Directors (Industry and Construction) and multiple Supervisors that handle the day to day workload. The General Industry division conducts safety and health inspections in all places of employment within the State of Indiana with the exception of those covered by the Construction Safety Division.
