Who is Required to Take OSHA 10-hour Construction Training?

The OSHA 10-hour Outreach construction training program was developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide construction workers with a general awareness of the types of hazards commonly found on a construction site. OSHA recommends Outreach Training Program courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by the OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction standards. Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of the job; for example, information about site-specific policies and procedures as well as instruction on using tools and equipment at the job.

Although OSHA recommends this 10-hour construction course for construction site workers, it is not mandatory to take this course per OSHA regulations. However, there are seven states (New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Nevada) that have laws requiring the OSHA 10-hour construction course be completed by workers on certain construction sites (typically projects of certain sizes that are funded with tax dollars). In addition, there are many private contractors, project owners, and government agencies (such as the VA) located throughout the United States who require workers to complete this 10-hour construction class to become eligible to work on their construction sites too. Our online OSHA course is accepted in all 50 states, DC, and all US territories.

How the Online OSHA 10 Hour Construction Course Works

Online 10-hour construction training is designed so that each trainee has their own online course. Individual trainees can register by clicking any one of the “Buy Now” buttons on this page. Companies and organizations wishing to have multiple people take this online 10-hour construction course can register each student themselves, or have us do that for them by using our Group Registration Form. Trainees will be able to begin their 10-hour training course within minutes of registering for their online OSHA 10 hour course. To make sure there is someone at the computer during the course, the student must click an arrow to advance through the course each time a section is completed. The course is narrated, so the student must use a computer equipped with speakers or plug in headphones or ear-buds so they can hear.

One of the major benefits of taking our online OSHA 10-hour construction training course is the trainee may log out of their online training course at any time during their training session, and can log back in later to resume training where they left off, even from a different computer or tablet. The student must complete all course content to receive their OSHA 10-hour card, in addition to spending a minimum of 10 hours (600 minutes) to complete their course. Furthermore, OSHA limits the student to a total cumulative training time of 7.5 hours per day; if you reach that daily limit, the course will pause until the next day. OSHA has also established a strict 180 calendar day completion period for the online 10-hour course, although many students actually knock out their OSHA 10-hour construction course in just a couple of days.

A word of warning; if you see any website offering an “OSHA certified 10-hour training course”, or stating that you get your “OSHA 10-hour certification” when you take their online 10-hour construction training course, be aware that is absolutely NOT true. OSHA does not “certify” anyone for anything. In fact, trainers are forbidden by OSHA from advertising their OSHA 10-hour training course as “OSHA certified”. Instead, we are supposed to state that the course is “OSHA-authorized” or “accepted”.

Once you complete the course, you are also required to complete the “End-of-Course Survey”. It is MANDATORY for the trainee to complete this online survey after completing their OSHA 10-hour construction training course before the 180 calendar day deadline, or else the OSHA Ed Center will not process their wallet card.
